Professional Grip and Electric 101

The grip and electric crew are those hardworking folks responsible for setting up lights, flying 20 X 20 foot diffusion panels, moving camera dollies and generally carrying out the director of photography and gaffer’s direction. When the G&E department rig a lighting scheme they see immediate results and fine tune it with immediate feedback. A good grip and electric crew are like soldiers treating their tools with respect and ready to strike on the word cut. It is hard work but it’s a great way to start making money and contacts in the industry fast.

Who should take this workshop?
This six week workshop is for anyone who wants to jump in the trenches and learn how to get work as a paid grip and or electrician on indie film, corporate video, TV commercials and feature films.

What will be covered?
We’ll introduce HMI, Quartz, Fluorescents and LEDs lighting instruments, as well as lighting control devices including C-stands, diffusion panels, flags, nets, gels and other tools that control and effect the quality of the light cast upon the talent and the environment.
