Professional Grip and Electric 101

Stand out on the next production with working knowledge on how to safely and quickly set lights and rigging structures. This workshop will introduce you to the proper use of gels, flags and nets. You’ll learn to fly 8 X 8 foot diffusion panels, move and level cameras and dollies.  A good grip and electric crew are like soldiers. They treat their tools with respect and are always ready for action with the right tool to keep production shooting.

Who should take this workshop?

It’s hard work but it’s a great way to start making money and contacts in the industry fast. When the G&E department light a set they see immediate results and get immediate feedback. This is a common path to the position of Director of Photography.
This workshop is for anyone who wants to jump in the trenches and learn how to get work as a paid grip and or electrician on indie film, corporate video, TV commercials and feature films.

What will be covered?

We’ll introduce HMI, Quartz, Fluorescents and LEDs lighting instruments, as well as lighting control devices, including C-stands, diffusion panels, flags, nets, gels and other tools that control and affect the quality of the light cast upon the talent and the environment. In addition to learning the equipment names and it’s function, everyone will learn how to safely setup and handle equipment in a real onset environment. Those interested will have the opportunity to signup for an internship and take part in real life training.
